Billing Data Validation

The study involves the use of EDAMS Commercial Data Analysis for the analysis and systematic field validation and reconciliation of billing data in order to improve data quality. This will necessarily result in more accurate billing, a reduction in lost revenue, identification of illegal and unregistered connections and a meter program. During the connection field survey, the service connection condition is noted and connections losses are identified.

The exercise results in an updated billing database and information on the condition of connections and meters. Hydro-Comp will define and oversee the methodology, produce maps and log-books to be used as well as reconcile the billing database and record the problems from the survey, whilst either the Client personnel or a local company will be used to carry out the field work

Network Data Validation

The objective of the exercise is the establishment of a validated and field-reconciled network database that will enable the proper management, efficient maintenance and network planning of the reticulation system. EDAMS Network Asset Management is used to analyse the system in different ways, highlighting data connectivity problems and providing a better understand of how the existing network operates, especially with regard to zones (hydraulic and pressure zones for water, feeder and transformer zones for electricity, etc.). The analysis highlights data ‘problem’ and ‘suspect’ areas in the network that are marked on produced maps.

The maps are used by field groups that perform an entire walk through the network, verifying the mapped network, recording unknown components found and noting the condition of network components. Spot sounding also helps to identify suspect leaks and highly corroded pipelines. Leakage Management program

The leakage management program should be carried out after network rehabilitation and network optimisation has been carried out. Activities include:

• Mass balancing to indicate losses and zone performance auditing

• Pressure management guidelines

• Assistance for leak detection & network field work

• Testing of Metered Zones including calibration, isolation, pressure control.

• Leakage Detection for major non-visible leaks

• Commissioning of District Meter Areas (DMA)
