EDAMS Software Licensing and Setup
Frequently Asked Questions

Connectivity problem with EDAMS licensing server.

Problems may occur with EDAMS licensing server when users are not in the same domain – for example for Call center, which is in a different location than the server. The problem could be that the server stops and after that users can not reconnect.

For licensing server to work users must be in the same sub-network. If you would like to use different sub-networks you must set up the router to route broadcast messages in order for server discovery mechanism to work. For notification server however in order to work properly users must be in the same domain.

How do I install EDAMS Web GIS (Billing)?

To install EDAMS web GIS software follow the instructions below:
The instructions are for installing the web Billing application but similar  procedure applies for all web GIS software.
1. You need a machine with Windows 2003 Server with IIS and .Net framework 2.0.

2. Create a user on that machine to use with WebBilling. It should be normal user, member of Users group, Password option must be set to Never Expire.

3. Prepare databases for use. There are 2 types of databases needed for portal: Main database and Secondary databases.

Main database must be the fastest and closest database (LAN) to the machine with portal, it will keep portal user profiles, passwords, sessions etc.
The portal will use all billing groups from this database.
Secondary databases are used to provide information about customers from additional billing groups.
For now preparation of databases must be done manually, later it will be part of db manager.
The preparation procedure is the same for all databases:
Apply the supplied script to create portal tables and procedures on EDAMS schema
Than load the supplied script for portal security, replace password Password1 in beginning of the script for any password you like, than run script on EDAMS and ARCHIVE schemas.

4. Install the WebBilling using file setup.msi

5. Run post build program to supply database access information and user identity information to Portal.
(default) database profile is for main database
all extra billing groups must be listed in profiles list. Remember, profile name must be equal to billing group id!
Use db user name WEBPORTAL and password specified on step 3.
Also, specify portal user name, machine name (can use dot (.) for local machine) and password. The program tests user credentials before it updates portal configuration file.

6. Open file web.config in c:\inetpub\wwwroot folder in text editor, and provide the following information:
<add key="CRM.Mail.DefaultEmail" value="portal@edams.com"/>
<add key="CRM.Mail.SMTPServer" value="edamsnet"/>
change the values to your mail server and default email address for contact.
That's it, you can start the browser and navigate to that machine. Initially portal users database will be empty, so you use user name hcs and password hcs for login. This user will be created automatically, so you can create more users. Delete this user account or change it's password when you have no need for it anymore.

Problem istalling EDAMS Web GIS ?

When I try to istall Web GIS  I get the following error message "Could not load file or assembly or one of its dependencies. Access is denied"
To resolve above problem Go to "C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\Temporary ASP.NET Files"

(Modify the framework version, root directory etc according to your environment. ) Now, right-click and open up the Security tabs for this folder. Grant "Full control" to the 'users' group. However, if this is a security problem for your environment to grant full control to all users in Users group, another solution could be to put the concerned assemblies lo GAC.
