Demand Analysis

Demand Analysis is an interim study required for many consultancy studies, such as the Network Optimisation study, the Future Master Plan, the Operational Guidelines Plan and the Leakage Management program. The study makes use of EDAMS Demand Management to perform:

  • Commercial data evaluation: to ensure that the meter and meter reading information used is corrected and adjusted to reliable figures for consumption analysis.

  • Consumption analysis so as to establish consumption behaviour per consumer type.

  • Evaluation of demand standards for revision of assigned standards prior to design.

  • System component capacity analysis – to evaluate the upgrading requirements of major system components (such as reservoirs, pumps, transformers, main feeders, etc.) to meet current demands and design standards.

  • Generation of design flows for use in network analysis.

  • Zone performance evaluation, assessing per zone losses (non-revenue water (NRW) for water, evaluating the possible components of NRW, IWA leakage indicators and other important performance indicators.

Network Optimisation Study

The EDAMS study for the optimisation of the existing network makes use of new generation network and demand management systems to effectively rezone and optimise the system in order to balance the pressure distribution and ensure proper flow conditions.
A correctly zoned and optimised network will automatically reduce existing leakage, minimise the likelihood of future leaks, make leakage control easier and prolong the effective lifespan of the network.

Future Master Plans (Network Expansion)

The Hydro-Comp approach encompasses traditional Master Plan deliverables but, in addition, includes the development of a Network Asset Management model and a Live Master Plan model, providing flexibility in capital deployment arising from unforeseen changes with time.
In addition, it utilises advanced demand and network analysis techniques enabled through the use of EDAMS Management Systems and builds up capacity in the Client’s department to continuously manage the investment program.

Operational Guidelines Plan

The Operational Guidelines Plan is compiled through a study of the network operation in real time implementing micro-demand and hydraulic/distribution analysis (continuous simulation) for different operational conditions in terms of flows and electricity pumping costs. Such conditions include different demand patterns as well as simulated high risk and emergency events, such as major fires and major breakdowns. The plan serves as an input to Operations for settings on the operational mode of both pumps and valves.
