More than 20 years of in-depth engineering and consulting experience in the Utility industry has formed the basis of our focuses best practices consultancy services that effectively address both distribution and institutional issues to improve overall efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
The Hydro-Comp approach has proven, in practice, to be more effective and, from the Utility’s perspective, less expensive than conventional methods.

The different types of studies offered are briefly described below. For most of the studies a more detailed description can be made available on request. Please note that although the various consulting studies outlined make use of EDAMS Management Systems, the Client does not have to purchase any of these. Working models of the systems will be presented at the end of the study and the Client will have the option to proceed with purchasing and implementing the systems.

Institutional Studies

The Utility Assessment study will define both the current status and achievable performance objectives of the Utility with respect to both the commercial and technical functions. It will also cover different remedial scenarios regarding the possible and desired courses of action in order to achieve the performance objectives as defined. The study is based on a one page macro-indicator questionnaire given to the Utility together with guidelines on the EDAMS proprietary Utility Assessment model. The study is offered at low cost, and sometimes for free, to Utilities to help them gain an overall perspective of the situation and assisting them in formulating the way forward.

Formulation of a Conservation Plan and Measures

Formulation of a conservation plan including specific conservation measures with the objective of changing demand patterns and quantities, the reduction & control of losses (non-revenue water for Water industry and transmission and distribution losses for Power industry) and optimising and controlling capital expenditure.

Tariff structure analysis

The complex relationships between metering, consumption, tariffs, affordability of customers and Utility finance have an important effect on the sustainability of Utilities. Hydro-Comp has developed a number of models and methodologies that explore the relationships and intricacies of the issues mentioned. The study combines the historical information and alternative pricing scenarios with budget information for the coming years in order to calculate rates that fully recover costs in those years.

Institutional Framework study

Industry experts will help assess and analyse the Utility’s strategic direction and facilitate strategic planning and review of the institutional framework. Such a review can include business process analysis, recommendations on organisational structures, job descriptions and operational procedures. The analysis can be conducted on an institutional or operational level for the whole organisation or a single department.
