Overview

EDAMS Network Asset Management is a specialised Windows-based asset register and network infrastructure management system that uses dedicated network data structures and element libraries that have been specifically designed and developed for Utilities. Separate element libraries exist for each type of service, e.g. water, sewer, etc.
Fully integrated with leading Graphical Information Systems (GIS), it transforms it into a true network data modeling system through the association of element topology and zoning characteristics to network data.
It can be deployed at the Utility as the base system for any or all of the following reasons: as an Asset register, for Mapping purposes, as a Financial network asset management system, as a Technical network asset manage-ment system, as a Network Maintena-nce management system, as a Demand Management system, for Conservation Planning purposes or purely for flow analysis – Design and Planning.

EDAMS Network Asset Management’s
powerful data conversion and structuring facilities make it easy to attach engineering intelligence to network data and improve its engineering integrity. Its element libraries simplify and enforce disciplined capturing of all relevant properties of network components so they can be used for maintenance, analysis and asset management purposes.
One of the main advantages of the system is the transformation of GIS into an engineering tool that will reveal a truer picture of a network’s behaviour. It adds engineering topology to network data, which will, for instance, prevent the linking of two pipes with different diameters.
With its engineering intelligence it is able to automatically generate different types of engineering zones:

  • Hydraulic / flow zones for separating transmission / bulk supply from distribution networks

  • Mass balancing zones for loss management per district metered area.

  • Head / Voltage zones for pressure / energy management.

  • System component zones, e.g. reservoir zones, transformer zones for demand analysis & evaluation of component capacities.

  • Network Data Evaluation evaluates the network and highlights exceptions in graphical and numerical terms with regard to missing attribute data (e.g. diameter) connectivity violations, suspect engineering zoning (bulk supply versus district networks) and pressure zoning.

  • Asset Register - EDAMS Network Asset Management has built-in topology for all its elements. It can, in fact, reproduce the entire network graphically when linked to a new GIS or CAD system. Intelligence is also built in for every member in terms of connectivity, positioning and belonging, facilitating easy data evaluation and validation. The Financial Analysis functionality provides facilities for the depreciation of network assets according to accounting principles in order to produce a financial asset register as well as asset market valuations. Data Maintenance implies the application of logical rules that govern the editing and manipulation of network elements. All maintenance activities on network data are subject to connectivity validation criteria.

  • The Life Cycle Assessment function, in conjunction with the Asset Register facility, will enable the manager to optimize the network’s life cycle costs whilst at the same time ensuring that the required service levels are maintained. This involves the determination of the total costs of ownership over the life of the asset in order to: a) Evaluate the procurement of new assets, b) Evaluate the actual cost performance of the assets. And c) Enhance operational decisions throughout the life cycle of the asset.

  • Management reports include numerical, graphical reports and maps (including thematic mapping).
